Petriw discloses campaign contributions
Prince George — City council candidate Shawn Petriw announced today he is addressing the issue of campaign contributions "head–on" by disclosing the financing his campaign has received thus far.
"The issue of campaign contributions has surfaced in this election and I enthusiastically support a new standard of transparency and accountability."
Mr. Petriw says current disclosure rules play an important roll in the democratic process, but timely information is also important. He believes disclosing financial contributions before the election makes more sense than disclosure afterward.
"Voters shouldn't have to wait until next year to discover who gave financial support to whom. Voters deserve full disclosure before they go to the polls, and that's why I'm volunteering this information today."
